“It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man and God showed approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks by his example of faith.”
Hebrews 11:4 NLT

This verse is about the story of Cain and Abel, in Genesis 4:1-16. Cain and Abel are brothers and they are both going to offer a sacrifice to God. Abel offers his very best animal sacrifice and his sacrifice is accepted. Because of the way he showed up with God he is mentioned thousands of years later in the Bible and currently by me! What is this faith? Well…I’m glad you asked, LOL!

The Greek word for faith here is pistis. Pistis is faith that comes from trust; it is that your actions are based on your ability to trust. In this verse, Abel is demonstrating self trust and God is showing us the character of safe environments and people. You can watch a breakdown of this principle in the video below and on my YouTube channel.
