“Praise the Lord, all you nations;
extol him, all you peoples.”
Psalm 117:1 NIV

The Hebrew word for extol is sabah (say-bah). It means to glorify, commend, and praise the Lord. We should praise the Lord daily by engaging in prayer, worship, and being an example of God’s love and goodness to others. Why?

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
Ephesians 1:3 NIV

We praise God for salvation and blessings that come to us from the heavenly realm.

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavishes on us.”
1:4-7 NIV

We praise God, because He saves us according to his will. We are declared sons and daughters in Christ. He declares us righteous. This is not free of sin but forgiven of sin and declared blameless because of His grace and mercy. This isn’t license to continue sinning, but instead we are witnessing the character of God. A God that sees our faults and things; he forgives us according to His design.

“With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ”
1:8-9 NIV

We praise God because He has provided a way for us to get to know Him for ourselves through prayer, fasting, fellowship, and reading the Bible. I believe the Bible is meant to come alive in the season and time of life you need it in.

“to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment- to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.”
1:10 NIV

We praise God for unity. We are united together across all ethnicities, cultures, and practices by our belief in God.

“For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord.”
Psalm 117:2 NIV
