“Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers;
protect me from the violent,
who devise evil plans in their hearts
and stir up war every day.”
Psalm 140:1-2 NIV

“Praise be to the LORD, my Rock,
who train my hands for war,

my fingers for battle.”
Psalm 144:1 NIV

Whew! The warfare here, for me, has been legendary! Sometimes, we will be praying for deliverance; or my favorite prayer, for it not to happen at all! However, God’s provision, is that we learn to fight! God doesn’t send the war, but He allows it. So that we learn to be an advocate for ourselves.

“Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.
Rescue me from my enemies, LORD,
for I hide myself in you.”
Psalm 143:8-9 NIV

“He is my loving God and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,

my shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues people under me.”
Psalm 144:2 NIV

We read the Bible to learn about the character of God.
We read the Bible to grow in intimacy, love, and connection with God.
We read the Bible and know that God is with us in every season of life.

“LORD, what are human beings that you care for them,
mere mortals that you think of them?
They are like a breath;
their days are like a fleeting shadow.
Part your heavens, LORD, and come down;
touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy;
shoot your arrows and rout them.
Reach down your hand from on high;
deliver me and rescue me
from the mighty waters,
from the hand of foreigners
whose mouth are full of lies,
whose right hands are deceitful.”
Psalm 144:3-8 NIV

“The enemy pursues me,
he crushes me to the ground;
he makes me dwell in the darkness
like those long dead.”
Psalm 143:3 NIV

The Psalm is so raw. A God reminder that life has suffering and it inflicts harm and pain. We can feel it. We just don’t remain in it.

“I will sing a new song to you, my God;
on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,

to the One who gives victory to kings,
who delivers his servant David.

From the deadly sword, deliver me;
rescue me from the hands of foreigners
whose mouths are full of lies,
whose right hands are deceitful.

Then our sons in their youth
will be like well-nurtured plants
and our daughters will be like pillars
carved to adorn a palace.
Our barns will be filled
with every provision.
Our sheep will increase by thousands,
by tens of thousands in our fields;
our oxen will draw heavy loads.
There will be no breaching of walls,
no going into captivity,
no cry of distress in the streets.
Blessed is the people whom this is true;
blessed is the people whose God is the LORD.”
Psalm 144:9-15 NIV

We are blessed!
